Juice fast day 2

Hey!

Already day 2. I survived day 1, it went pretty well. Did had a light headache bit that’s also due to the cold I had to face outside. It was freezing and I wasn’t wearing a hat. My fault. I also made a video about yesterday, it’s here. I tell about the juices and drink one in the bus.

About today. Was I excited this morning?
YES!
Was I feeing fit today?
NO!
Will I continue this fast?
YES!
But I wasn’t feeling that good. I was hungry all day. At the end of the afternoon I are one apple. I just had to. I’m not feeling guilty. I also baked cookies out of the leftover pulp from my juices. If I feel like I need to eat, I can eat that. At least it’s healthy. This is the video about today.

A lot of people told me today that I looked pale. I wasn’t wearing make up, but maybe it’s because of the detox. I felt tired and I wasn’t that happy. I think it’s also because I wanted to eat the sushi my mum got. I’m still determined to continue. Let’s see what tomorrow will bring me!

Christmas eve; be kind

Hey,

In Holland it’s now Christmas eve. And I wish you all a wonderful night. I spent the night at my boyfriend’s,  we ate and gave each other presents.

I was really happy and grateful : his dad made a special vegan Christmas dinner for me. He made a lot of veggies,cooked in different ways. And as a starter he bought me vegan sushi. On top of that;  they gave me a lot of presents. Things like a spiralizer, but also a book and a dairy.

Getting all of these things made me realise something. Christmas is about the giving. Not material stuff, but things you feel from your heart. Things you make, things you give, from the bottom of your heart.

Tonight learned me to be kind. Kind to the bus driver, kind to the woman at the store. Always listen and open up your heart. If you do so, or if you try, you’ll notice the love you get back. This love has no expectations. It’s made out of kindness.

Christmas is about the giving: the giving of kindness

I learned to listen, and to love the people around you. Not only your inner circle, but also the mail man, or your hairdresser. Try to open up your heart, and to let the love in. If you feel the love then do the must logical thing you can do. Spread the love. Send your kind words to the rest of the world.

Citytripping; Londen!

Hey!

Who doesn’t love impulsive actions? Well, I certainly do! Last week I went with my dad to Londen. Did we plan this trip? Nope.
We received a mail with a great offer, we would stay 1 night in Londen, for very little money. We booked our flight and 6 hours later we flew to Londen.

Did I ever do something like this? No, this is probably the must impulsive thing I did. We arrived around dinner time, and we had a blast.

We had curries in Camden, oh they were so good! The next day we went to Hyde Park, to the Winter Wonderland. It was so big, you could skate and go to various foodstands, and even go to the carnaval!

Of course we made a silly photo. I love my dad. 💜 I was pretty happy, there were a lot of good vegan options to eat. My dad ate “the English way” and had himself some sausages and eggs.

We went to Covent garden to buy some Christmas decorations, and walked around regent’s street. I loved the little Christmas market next to the church. Did anyone else visited it? I liked the way the people talked about what they were selling, they were sitting in the cold. But still found the passion to keep going and keep making beautiful art.

It was funny,because last year I also went to London. And believe it or not, around the same time! We stayed 1 day more. Would I be going next year?

Dinner with friends

Hey!

I love to eat with my friends. But like I said in my last post, it can be hard to eat out. Another way to avoid that could be eating at home. That’s what I did yesterday, I invited a friend and together we cooked a delicious dinner!

We made a few dishes; at first we made zuchinni soup. After that we had a zuchinni pasta and a salad.
I made the pasta for the second time, it’s still a succes!

The recipe for the soup;
– 4 zuchinni’s
– vegetable stock
– 2 onions
– some garlic
– around 600 ml water

Cut the onion and the garlic and put them in a big pot. Let them cook, and cut the zuchinni in little dices.
Put them in the pot, and cook for 10 minutes. Then put the water and the stock in. Cook for 20 minutes, then blend the zuchinni until you get a creamy texture. And your soup is done!

It was nice to make a meal together;  and it was fun that my friend liked my vegan food! That’s a good goal right? Eating at home can be the solution if you’re scared to dine out, or just want to save money.

Vegan meet up

Hey!

I had an awesome day today, thanks to my dear (vegan) friend Ivana .
Ivana has been a vegan for a long time,way longer then me. She helped me when I started living as a vegan. (She gave me the best recipes, and tips)

This is what we do whenever we meet; we eat. A lot. And I always try to make new things, which occasionally turns out terrible and sometimes awesome.

It’s nice to have a vegan friend. My ‘normal’  friends really try to understand and to think about me. But I notice that sometimes they get annoyed by me. By my eating habits. By the fact that I can’t eat everywhere, and that they always have to buy other things for me.
So it can be so nice and relaxing to talk to someone who has the same issues.
And, besides the vegan thing, Ivana is a great girl. We can have a lot of fun together.

I like the fact that I made a friend because of my principles. I made a friend who believes the same thing as I do. I really think I can say that becoming a vegan made my life a little bit brighter.

Marrakech review: Camel riding

Hey!

I already wrote a post about the difference between camel and elephant riding. So, you might have known that Vincent&I went for a camel ride.
At first I was a bit suspicious, I was afraid of how they treated the camels. Would it be good, or bad as the elephants in Thailand? Well, I can happily say that it was amazing.

They treated the camels well, stroke them and gave them peanuts and beans.
They didn’t hurt them; and when one of the camels decided he didn’t want to walk anymore, they didn’t push them to walk. They just waited, and they tried to command him to walk. It was fun to see, they treated the camels like dogs.

We went for the camel ride around sunset. The weather was great, and we had to wear blue suits like the man in the picture. It felt a bit weird to sit on the camel. But my camel (I called him Frankie) was real sweet. I could stroke him and he listened pretty well. We made a trip to the dessert; it was reallt special to do that on the back of a camel!

After 1 hour we stopped at a berber house, and a woman brought us tea. In French she told us that this house was from her and her family, who also owned the camels. Thetea was Maroccan tea: 4 spoons of sugar for just a little cup. You get used to it.
After the tea we went on the camels again; that was when 1 of the camels didn’t want to walk anymore.
After some beans (see picture above) he wanted to walk again. It was funny, he acted like a little child.
We saw the sunset and it was breathtaking.
If you ever go to Marocco, please to something like this.
But: check it first out, I did research and discovered this tour, were they were good to the camels. Be sure you book something like that.

Cooking class in Marrakech

Hello!

Today is day 5 in Marrakech, and Vincent and I decided to follow a Maroccan cooking class!

I found it online and after checking their site we decided it was a fun thing to do!
The class started at ten in the morning.
We first went to the market, to buy all our ingredients. I pointed out that I was a vegan, it was no problem.
We bought a lot of vegetables, meat for Vincent, fruit for the juice and spices for in our dishes.

After that, we went to the hostel where we were going to cook. The lady who was giving the class, made us Maroccan tea. (You can see it on my YouTube channel; rawjazzie) And then it was time to make the preparations
Prepare (or making your mise en place) is always the most work to do. The cutting, mixing and chopping takes a lot of time.

We were going to make a tagine with vegetables and lamb with a sort of gravin. We also made a mango/orange juice. I’ll be posting the recipe, so you can make it too! We made the lamb in a pressure cooker; if you use a stone tagine, it’ll take over 6 hours to cook. We didn’t have that time, so a pressure cooker is also fine.

It took time to cook; in between we were drinking our juice and relaxing at the rooftop terrace. It was sunny, but not too hot. After 40 minutes it was cooked and we enjoyed our meal. I liked my tagine, there were so any vegetables in it!
The woman who gave the class was very friendly and her English was good.

I recommend  the class because it gives you a new view into the Maroccan culture.  You’ll find out how they make all of your favorite dishes, and you learn to make them yourself. The atmosphere in the class was great; very relaxed and there was no rush. It was a very nice thing to do.

Breakfast idea’s

Hey!

What do you eat for breakfast?
Do you always eat the same thing?
Do you lack ideas, and want to try something different?
Here are my favorite, delicious and healthy breakfast ideas!

1. Soy yogurt with home made cruesli. This is one od my favourite quick breakfast ideas, I make the cruesli the day before and I only have to put it in a bowl with some yogurt. But still, a delicious idea.
2. Overnight oats. You have to make this one the night before, the oats have to sulk in all the almond milk (or soy milk) you put in. It’s really good with some extra maple syrup.
3. Baked oats with chopped apple cinnamon. I live to eat this in the winter. Somehow it reminds me of eating apple pie. It takes a bit more time; you need to peel and chop the apples and then cook it with (soy) milk,cinnamon and oats.

4. Pancakes. I make my pancakes with almond milk and bananas instead of milk and eggs. (One large banana for 2 eggs) It takes some time,but it’s great for the weekend. It really feels like a Sunday brunch.
5. Rice crackers with hummus, tomatoes and cucumber. I eat this whenever we run out of oats or almond milk. It good, easy but it’s a bit like comfort food.

Brain training

Hello everyone!

The subject of today is; your brain!
Why? Because it’s one of the most important parts of our body, but one we always seem to forget..

Your brain is a funny thing. It’s always developing itself, and some days it’s easier to remember things then other days. Why is that?

This can have various reasons. One is food (or better; energy!) just like your body, your brain needs food in order to work properly. The food gives enough energy to remember things.
Sleep is also so important. If you regularly sleep to little; your brain is always dealing with a lack of energy. It’s harder to concentrate.

What can you do to improve your brain function? Well,  make a lot of sudoku’s. By making sudoku’s you stimulate your brain to keep thinking. Remembering faces with their name is also a good one. Try this one at a party. Try to collect as many names as possible, and try to remember them at the end of the night. Did you knew them all?

I like to train my brain remembering everything that’s on my grocery list, without peaking. The first time it was difficult, but now I’m getting good at it!
